Los estudiantes hoy en día necesitan desarrollar habilidades y conocimientos sobre las tecnologías de la información (TICs), para aprovechar la fuerza, efectividad, y eficiencia en la Era de la Información. La alfabetización tecnológica y la alfabetización informacional son componentes tan primordiales para la competencia en el manejo de la información que descuidarla puede afectar de una manera significativa el éxito académico futuro y las oportunidades profesionales de nuestros educandos.
Los países avanzados en temas educativos se han preocupado por desarrollar en todos los niveles las habilidades requeridas para aprovechar plenamente los recursos que se encuentran en las bibliotecas. En este tenor la UNAM ha dispuesto un cúmulo de información impresa y digital en sus más de 139 bibliotecas integradas a todo un Sistema Bibliotecario. Los recursos digitales de información han constituido un bastión importante en el desarrollo de la docencia e Investigación en esta Institución, por tal motivo se han realizado grandes esfuerzos para poner a disposición de su comunidad académica, un cúmulo de recursos de información digital para que a lo largo y ancho del país y a través de las fronteras,
sean consultadas importantes fuentes bibliohemerográficas en todas las áreas del conocimiento.

El propósito de esta Guía es doble, por una parte, describir en qué consisten cada uno de los pasos y subpasos del Modelo Gavilán y, por la otra, explicar mediante actividades las estrategias didácticas que permiten trabajarlo en el aula. Para facilitar su comprensión, se utilizan constantemente ejemplos que ilustran de manera práctica y detallada lo que se describe en cada subpaso del Modelo. Adicionalmente, se hacen recomendaciones generales y se enfatizan aspectos que deben tenerse en cuenta para obtener buenos resultados. De este modo, el docente podrá contar con los
elementos conceptuales y didácticos necesarios para diseñar y llevar a cabo actividades de clase efectivas, que ayuden a que los estudiantes desarrollen la Competencia para Manejar Información (CMI).

RECOMENDACIONES GENERALES
* Se recomienda trabajar con los estudiantes los temas de aprestamiento que se describen en el siguiente apartado, antes de comenzar a utilizar el Modelo Gavilán. Éstos temas les permiten adquirir una visión más amplia del extenso mundo de la información y de la importancia que tiene desarrollar la CMI en la sociedad actual. 
* El Modelo Gavilán y las estrategias didácticas para utilizarlo, tienen como principal objetivo que los estudiantes desarrollen la CMI. Sin embargo, este propósito puede alcanzarse únicamente si se trabajan con suficiente profundidad cada uno de los Pasos y subpasos que lo componen. Por esta razón, es deseable que su aplicación se incorpore de manera transversal dentro del Plan Curricular de las Instituciones Educativas desde el grado 6º hasta el grado 11º o, como mínimo, a partir del grado 8º, incluyendo en ambos casos, actividades de aprestamiento.
* Es poco recomendable utilizar por primera vez el Modelo Gavilán en el aula realizando un proyecto de investigación completo; esto es, que se requiera trabajar en él todos los Pasos de manera continua. Dado que todos ellos implican poner en práctica habilidades puntuales, estas podrían quedar desatendidas debido a la extensión y complejidad de la actividad. Por esta razón, se recomienda trabajar cada uno de los Pasos por separado antes de resolver problemas de información que los integren a todos. Las especificaciones sobre cómo hacerlo se presentan tanto a lo largo de la Guía, como en las actividades propuestas para cada Paso.
* Es necesario aclarar que las estrategias didácticas para aplicar el Modelo Gavilán se generaron especialmente para el desarrollo adecuado de investigaciones en las cuales la fuente de información principal es Internet. Sin embargo, los docentes pueden adaptarlas a otras necesidades, si así lo requieren.

Selección de 10 tipos de infografías:

1.Procesos: Explica el proceso de fabricación de un producto, los pasos que necesitas para llegar a conseguir algo o qué hay que hacer para llegar a un punto determinado.
2.Cronología: Ordena hechos históricos o señala paso a paso una actividad que se realice a durante un período de tiempo. Conseguirás aclarar a tus clientes qué deben hacer en cada momento preciso.
3.Ingredientes o componentes: ¿de qué está hecho algo? .
4.Citas: reúne citas acordes con tu campo de actuación y haz que lleguen a tus seguidores de manera gráfica. Muchas veces valdrá incluso con una cita o refrán bien explicada gráficamente.
5.Datos y estadísticas: señala gracias a ilustraciones los datos y las estadísticas que quieres explicara los usuarios, de esta forma, lo más complicado se simplifica para que cualquiera pueda comprender.
6.Informes: resume lo más importante de una ponencia o informe.
7.Advertencias: si quieres dar a conocer los peligros o precauciones que se deben tener en cuenta al usar un productos, no dudes en hacerlo a través de una infografía.
8.Listas: puedes crear listas de todo tipo: de lugares que visitar, de cosas que puedes hacer, de festivales que ver, de pros y contras…
9.Servicios: habla de los servicios que ofreces o los productos que pueden conseguir en tu empresa. Convierte la infografía en un catálogo.
10.Historias:Cuenta las mejores historias con los mejores recursos que tienes a tu alrededor.

¿Qué es la infografía?
Es un diseño gráfico en el que se combinan textos y elementos visuales con el fin de comunicar información precisa sobre variadas temáticas (científicas, deportivas, culturales, literarias, etc.).
Este recurso aproxima al lector a los elementos, ideas o acontecimientos más importantes de un determinado tema,como: dónde ocurrió, cómo se llevó a cabo, cuáles son sus características, en qué consiste el proceso, cuáles son las cifras, etc
